Christmas

The waterproof wrapping of the windows has started.  The Tyvek paper that frames the windows will keep all the water, and thus the mold, out of our new house.

Actually, there are multiple layers to the waterproofing of the windows.  First, the hole that will eventually be filled by a window is framed with Tyvek paper.  Then the window frame is painted with green paint (I don't think it really just paint but I don't exactly know what it is.  All I know for sure is that it looks like the crap I used to use in the horses feet to avoid thrush - and it smells just as bad.  But really, I think it is probably either another waterresistant substance or a glue used to adhere the next layer of waterproofing paper.  I will find out next time I see the contractor.)  Anyway..... the window is framed with Tyvek and painted green

and then the interior of the frame is coated with a second type of waterproofing paper which overlaps the Tyvek.  Looks well sealed to me.

We are all about no leaks.

When the house is complete, and it is not raining, we will really enjoy spending time out on our back deck.  Today, the framing of the back deck has been completed by framing in the curved portion of the deck that extends out from the livingroom.

Shimmy the framer cut thin notches into the 2X12s that he used to frame against the curved steel.  The notches in the boards allow the boards to conform to the curve of the steel thus making a nice snug fit.  Once the steel is framed in wood, he can attach the deck trusses.

Although the ply is not set for the back porch yet, we get the idea....
