Monolith

I guess if I had studied the drawings a little bit closer, I would have realized that the wall was only half done on the 3rd.  But this way, I get a surprise!  The view of the monolith wall from the living room shows the full extent of the wall (almost).  The cut out section in the bottom right of the wall is actually the framing support for the fireplace.

The monolith wall is equally impressive when viewed from the upstairs landing.

And since the framing for the fireplace is the new shiny thing, we have lots of photos of it.  Here it is from the living room side..... Through the fireplace you can see a small section of the dining room and part of the back patio.

From the dining room side............Through the fireplace you can see the living room floor and beyond that the front door (on the left) and the guest bedroom walls.

And straight on....or pretty close........

We are getting really close to being finished with the framing.  Now, the framing for the main floor is done to the point that we can see the full shape of the house.  For the photograph below, I am standing in the kitchen, essentially right where the kitchen island will be located.  On the right of the photograph is the dining room with the patio just beyond.  The monolith wall with the fireplace cut out separates the dining room from the living room and the living room pretty much takes up the rest of the photograph.  Again, we see the framing along the steel to create the wall of windows and to the far left, the rotunda for the sweeping staircase.

In addition to the fabulous framing progress, today we had our first meeting with the electrician, lovingly known as Sparky, to go over all the electrics.  We had a lot of changes for him.  But the one thing we did keep are the beautiful light fixtures that they had already put in.  They look uncannily similar to paper plates, but we are told they are all the rage now.

The lights in the dining room and kitchen.....

and in the media room.

Don't worry, we aren't really going to have paper plate fixtures.......they are a fire hazard.....
