The deck is waterproof again...

The back decks are getting resealed in the areas that had to be "altered" during the installation of the railing posts.  To put the posts in, they had to remove the layer of Tuff Flex from the deck so the posts could be attached to the deck framing.  Now, the posts are in, new plywood has been placed on the deck, and a new coat of Tuff Flex has been applied to the exposed areas.  You can easily see where the new surfacing is because it is a much lighter color.

The newly sealed surface also incorporates an extra bit around each post to ensure that the deck doesn't leak where the posts stand.

For safety reasons, the guys put up this blue tape to keep anyone from falling off the deck......actually, I think it is to keep people from walking on the new surface, but it is funnier to think they did this for safety.

The posts have also been installed on the master bedroom deck above and now they too are sealed and waterproofed.  In the photograph, the speaker that Peter installed in the eve is visible.  Also, underneath the master bedroom deck, you can see the speakers and lights that are installed in the overhang for the deck outside the dining room.

The tile in the kitchen continues to get installed....slowly.....  Now there are only about five more tiles to be set.....

But they have tiled all around underneath the cabinets

on both sides of the kitchen sink, almost....and they have installed the thin tiles that cover the corners between the bay windows

A closer view of the corner at the bay windows

We decided to have them tile the corners between the bay windows even though it required these very narrow pieces because we didn't know how else to finish these corners...

A close up view of these tiles also shows what the edge finish will be - essentially just a strip of stainless steel, very minimalist..

We are not quite sure that the kitchen tile actually goes with the kitchen cabinets so I exposed some of the granite countertop to try to get a better feeling of what the final product will look like.....Hmmmm....still not sure..  But we are not changing it now.

The screens for all the windows have returned from the painters where the frames were getting stained to match the windows.  The painters said they had a great time with this because the frames are so thin.

The washer and dryer have migrated up to the laundry room on the second floor now because the contractors were not sure how they would get them up the stairs after the glass railings were installed.

Speaking of the glass railings of the amazing sweeping staircase...

Today, Art and company prepared the amazing sweeping staircase for installation of the glass railings.  They spent a good portion of their day taping the top side of the stringer with blue tape to protect the veneer from getting coated with the silicon that they will use to fix the glass in its groove.

The first guy carefully taped the entire railing run with blue tape and then a second guy followed along cutting the tape to exactly match the veneer shape by cutting the blue tape out of the groove in the stringer.

and yes, they had to do this all the way across the cat walk as well because this too will have glass railings.

After the glass railings are inset in the stair stringer, they will be capped with a maple railing like the one shown below.

Currently, all the maple railing is sitting on the living room floor still wrapped in its shipping clothes.

The railings, fortunately, are already shaped to follow the staircase arc.....or so Arcways believes.  We will believe it when we see them installed.
