Moving, windows that is.

The stairway from the garage into the pantry/fish room were reframed yesterday so they are square and level.  This allows the tile guys to start the tiling process by laying mud on the stairs and throughout the pantry/fish room

During the process of building this house, we have periodically, and perhaps inadvertently, tried to fit a square peg in a round hole...... This is something we will avoid when installing the railings on the back deck because the round holes that were drilled yesterday for the railing posts are square today.

Sometimes on this project, we have tried, but failed, to fit a round object in a round hole; the amazing sweeping staircase for example.  The staircase is effectively round and it fits in a round rotunda, but the "roundness" of these two round objects was not the same.  Thus the stairs did not quite fit.  Well, that is not quite fair.  The roundness of the stairs and the rotunda are the same; it is just the termination of the stairs (top and bottom of the stairs) and the framed connection points for the termination of the stairs do not quite meet in the same place.  As a result, the contractor jacked the entire staircase up about 6 inches using bottle jacks and set the staircase on stilts yesterday so the bracket for the top of the stairs can be moved.

Jacking up the staircase also allows them to move the windows that will be "below" the staircase.  As you can see, they are starting to bust out the windows....

Moving right along.....
