As Nelle mentioned the other day the contractors were painting facia boards for the roof. It is apparently easier to paint a board when it is laying on the floor of the garage than when it is hanging 30ft up in the air. Anyway, today they have not only installed those facia boards, they have started to sheet the roof and that means a new perspective on the project. The curve of the garage roof looks very different when you are standing on the roof of the house.

Although most of the facia boards will be covered once the final roof is in place, for now the addition of a colour other than wood is very exciting.

The observant amongst you will already have noticed the flaw in our plan. The original house had a flat roof, two sky lights and apparently more than one leak. We decided that this roof would have no holes in it. Things have slipped a bit since our early naive days and I now count a total of five stench pipes that will all protrude through our no-hole roof.

We are assured that this is normal and that they won't leak. I guess time and a couple of good California rain storms will tell.

Now that we can stand on the roof it is amazing to see just how big the house really is.

From below the roof is finally starting to make the living room look like part of a house and not just a collection of rough framing. We were concerned that the 20ft high ceilings might start to get a little claustrophobic once the roof was on but we needn't have worried.

Looking back from the bottom of the hill you can finally see that although the house is months away from being complete, it is starting to look like the renderings that I posted a couple of days ago.

The image on the left shows the wall of windows that will eventually close in the living room and the steel work for the curved deck. The image on the right shows the location of the stairs and the guest bedroom.

Finally today the plumber has been busy. There is additional copper pipe running throughout the house but how many images of pipe can you look at. Sorry Leaky but it is just not that interesting.
