Framing

Just two days after the slab has been put in, we already have the media room walls almost completely framed up!

The three walls in the center of the photograph (above) are three of the walls of the media room.  The fourth wall is in the right side of the photograph and has a large opening in it.  This opening is about as big as the screen will be in the final media room.  Looking through that hole shows how big the media room is (below).

We have (almost) our first room!!!!

The garage floor has also been framed.  On top of these floor trusses, plywood will be laid and then a 4" layer of concrete (yep, more concrete) will be poured to form the actual floor of the garage.

A view of the garage floor from the kitchen area.  There will be stairs eventually....

The green wall is one of the walls of the mechanical room.

It is super exciting to see all this framing, but more importantly, the stairs have been outlined.....

Yes, I literally meant that the stair treads have been drawn onto the concrete with a pencil.   Woo Hoo!

Although we are getting a lot of wood on the site now, that doesn't mean that we are done with steel yet.  The steel guy still has a number of girders (cross beams) to weld onto the structural columns that were installed on 6/10.  The welding is done in the field (meaning 'on site') and while the welder is working, he is hidden behind a piece of plywood so we can't actually see the flash.

But I snuck a peek.....

If you have been following this blog, you know that today is the first time we have a lot of wood on the site.  Up until this point, we have had steel, rebar, concrete - all non-flammable materials.  But now, the first day we have all kinds of flammable material on the site, our neighbors decided to try to burn us all down.  Well, not really.  But they did start demolition and as part of that, they had to cut up the damaged rebar to fit it in the dumpster.  They decided to do that with a power grinder which created all kinds of sparks and they ran the grinder in the dry grass in the immediate proximity to our site.

Being the helpful neighbors that we are, we offered them our water source to wet down the highly flammable dry grass that the sparks are landing in...

This could be one of the downfalls of being ahead of your neighbors in rebuilding.
