Decision decision

The focus for the last day or so has been on the vanities for the bathrooms.  It is at this time that many decisions need to be made on vanity position and height, faucet location, mirror location, vanity lights (what the actual light will be as well as where it goes), etc.  Since Peter is in Taiwan for the week, all these decisions will be mine.  Goody.

A few days ago, I made the decision (with a little coaxing and agreement from the contractor) to have the contractor move the plumbing for the guest bathroom vanity.  That replumb has already occurred so we have new hot and cold water supplies and a new drain

The plumbing was a fairly simple move because it only moved horizontally about 6 inches or so.

The next decision involved the guest bathroom vanity and sink and where to place the mirror with respect to the vanity.  The vanity has been residing in the storage unit out in front of the house for quite a while and finally it has been brought into the house and was set up in the guest bathroom so I could see where it was and use it to determine where the mirror should go

We have a very cool vessel sink for the guest bathroom that was cut out of a single stone.  The interior of the sink is polished and the outer surface is left rough.  It is super cool looking.  But I digress from the subject at hand.....  With the vanity, vessel sink, and faucet in place, we held the mirror against the wall and moved it about until it looked like it was in about the right place.

Unfortunately, with the mirror in its optimal location and the faucet in its new location (the faucet position moved because we shifted the vanity location), the electrical boxes for the light switch for the vanity light, an outlet, and the vanity light were either completely covered or impossible to use.  Therefore, these all had to move.  Unlike the simple plumbing job we had in the guest bathroom, the electrical rewire has so far been quite a challenge with six holes in the wall and two in the ceiling required to move just the light switch and outlet.   The vanity light electrical has yet to be moved.

Therefore, so far, we have rewired and replumbed a good portion of the guest bathroom.

Let's head upstairs and check out the master bathroom.  As we walk through the newly hung master bedroom doors, let me note that these doors are brand new; the original ones were too narrow for the opening so those doors will now be used for the server closet in the garage and the master bedroom gets these new doors...

The first thing to see in the master bathroom is that the curved glass for the master shower has been installed!!!

This curved glass wall is very impressive in person - the photographs do not do it justice.

Anyway, in the master bathroom, the vanity and vessel sinks have also been mocked up in their current positions as defined by the plans

The plywood bases will not exist in the final configuration.  In the final configuration, the vanities hang from the wall and there will be empty space below them.   Here again, we decided that the vanity is not quite in the right place so we are going to move it to the right about eight inches (so much for sticking to the plans).  This means redoing the plumbing and some wiring.  Also, the holes that currently exist in the vanity top for the sinks set the sinks very far back on the vanity top so we are going to redrill those.  And the faucet holes in the vanity top, for some reason, do not exist.  In the end, the master bathroom gets some new plumbing, some new wiring, and some new drilling!

I forgot to show you that the glass for the shower in the guest bathroom has also been installed

The window shift for the amazing sweeping staircase is nearing completion with the drywall getting a coat of glaze.

Did I mention that the lights for the lower staircase also had to be rewired and brought out at a lower height because the stairs also covered these?  Oh yes.

Some decisions that have been made and will not be changing are the front door hardware (it is already installed)....  (We went with a keyless entry for the front door.)

and the tile for the entryway from the garage.

I am so looking forward to the next set of decisions....and to finding out what has to be rewired or replumbed......
