Two Fires On The Hill

Yes, I did panic a bit.  Attached to the email was the following photograph of the hill behind our nearly finished brand new replacement house for the house that burned down over two and a half years ago.

Peter took this photograph from our back porch with his phone.  The two seemingly small whisps of smoke rising from the hill behind the first ridge may not be reason enough to cause alarm.  However, after the journey we have traveled to get our house rebuilt and considering how close we are to finishing, we are a bit paranoid about fire.  Especially when Peter showed me the next photograph, taken two minutes later, which demonstrates how quickly a fire can grow.

So once Peter got our neighbors sufficiently worried (they just moved into their new house last week), he set off to the nearest fire station (which is within a mile of our house) to alert them about the fire.  When Peter arrived at the fire station, the firefighters were diligently pursuing their physical fitness program to keep them in shape for when they need to get out in the field (or in this case on the hill) to fight an actual fire.  Good they are prepared.

In the politically correct manner in which Peter deals with all people, Peter told this sweaty group of firefighters that he had lost his house in the Tea Fire because the fire department did not save his house and, at this point in time, was very close to completing the rebuild process and now there is a fire on the hill behind Parma Park and as he doesn't want to lose his almost completed new house, would they mind terribly trying to put it out before it burned his house down again?

I am sure this went over well with the guys at the fire house....

In the end, it was a controlled burn that was being performed to, hopefully, protect the residents from future fires.
